The Modern Play Dilemma
As a parent you want to feel like you're doing everything you can to ensure your child is happy, healthy, and successful. Parents today have access to more information and resources than ever before. This should feel empowering, but often it feels exhausting! The “good parent” badge seems more elusive than ever.
How are parents supposed to know what's best? To sort through all of the opinions and voices? To know what to prioritize and what to prohibit?
Problem & Solution
Culture’s answer is, “More is better. More extracurriculars, more tutoring, more social commitments!” Your exhaustion’s response might be, “Screen time!” As former educators, we think there is a better option that’s really just a return to the basics. A little something called unstructured playtime!
It sounds obvious at first, but think about how many hours a day your child is actually able to run free with their imagination. Play is of utmost importance in early childhood, it’s how children make sense of the world. They need uninterrupted time to discover their interests, work out problems and learn how to learn! We believe ample unstructured playtime is one of the most valuable things you can give your child.
Flourishing at Home
So, how can you encourage play in your home? It starts with developmentally appropriate and engaging play materials and an organized play space. We see families maximizing every other area of their home (pantries, bathrooms, even junk drawers), but the playroom is often forgotten. This space has the MOST potential to positively impact your children and family culture and can be taken to the next level with some simple fixes!
At Little Kingdoms we partner with families to design custom playrooms that totally transform the way kids play. Follow along as we share practical changes you can make to improve your child’s play and give you peace of mind knowing they're flourishing right at home.
