Helen Frankenthaler

Artist Inspiration: Helen Frankenthaler

We ventured into the world of abstract art and unique mediums this week as we used pipettes and watercolors to mimic Frankenthaler’s expressionist style!

We love this project and it always proves very popular with children ;) We offered water colors and pipettes at each table and watched as the class made colorful, puddle-y marks with them. Some children prioritized the process over the product and found a lot of joy in sucking up the liquid and depositing it on their paper. Others used lots of precision to intake only a teeny tiny bit of paint and place it very carefully on their paper. Both choices are good and there’s value in each manner of approaching this project!
