Keith Haring’s Dancing Figures

Artist Inspiration: Keith Haring

Keith Haring was born in 1958 in Redding, Pennsylvania. We dove into figure drawing this week as we used his movin’ and groovin’ subjects as inspiration.

*Also a quick note!

Yayoi Kusama is the only artist in this curriculum who is still living. We won’t be going into the details of anyone’s death, but wanted to give you a heads up as conversations might come up at home.

Drawing people can sometimes be intimidating, so we brought in our little mannequins to help. The children decided how they wanted the arms and legs positioned and used the figures as a guide to draw subjects of their own. Haring’s style was so playful and vibrant. The oil pastels paired with dark black markers made for some very pigmented end results!
