Wire Masks
Wire is one of our all-time favorite art materials because of its versatility. This week we used it to create self-portrait masks! We provided inspiration table and then had each child draw themselves on paper as a “map” for their wire. We then watched as the children turned straight wire into faces, eyes, and hair :)
Variation in Art Materials
In addition to traditional mark-making materials like crayons and colored pencils, we like offering more unconventional tools as well. Wire requires a lot of fine motor control and precision from children, it works an entirely different set of skills than drawing a picture. A child who doesn’t enjoy coloring or drawing might not think of themselves as artistic, BUT THEN! You offer them wire and they’re a master sculptor! They know exactly how to achieve the design they have in their head and they enjoy it. Check out some other mediums linked below :)
