Budding Artists’ Atelier Part 1: Art Details!
This project was a bunch of fun! We moved this family’s playroom from one part of the house to another, bringing it closer to the kitchen aka the heart of the home!
Let’s run through our priorities for the new room:
Offer quality art supplies in a super accessible way
Purge old toys to make space for Hannukah presents
Create a new child-friendly organizational system
Implement a tidying chart
Since our client’s daughter spends a lot of her time making art, we wanted to lean into an atelier feel for the room. This post will focus solely on the art details of the room and our next post will address all of the other updates!
Okay, let’s take a journey back in time to see the what the original playroom and the current playroom looked like pre-transformation!

Pegboard & Art Supplies
Art Supplies: We wanted to broaden these kiddos’ art horizons by giving them access to new mediums they’d never seen before! Most families have crayons, markers and colored pencils (which are GREAT, if they’re not broken and dried out!), but there are so many other ways for a child to create. Our fav recommendations?
Pegboard: We think a pegboard is such a cute way to add a pop of color to a room and make art supplies easy to grab. Insider tip: when installing a pegboard, overorder a variety of attachments so you can get the exact configuration you want!
Paper Roll/Magnet Wall
On the wall adjacent to the pegboard we wanted to add a paper roll for painting. However, we did NOT want the wall to accidentally become a second canvas. Our solution? Adding a magnetic mat that would…
1) Protect the walls from paint
2) Hold the paper in place as the kids work (plus magnets are just so fun!)
3) Encourage letter practice through dry erase marker use
We made sure the magnets and dry erase markers were on the right side of the pegboard so they could be grabbed at a moment’s notice.
Butter Yellow Art Locker
We thought this butter yellow Mustard Made locker was an adorable way to store ~less aesthetic~ art materials (sticker books, kits, etc.) nearby, but out of sight. Inside we added more organizers, so the items could be grouped by categories and pulled out together.
Art Table + Topper
Worried about your new art table immediately getting ruined? Add an acrylic table topper! Not every table offers this add-on, so if this is a priority to you, make sure to check before purchasing!
Kids’ Artwork Collage
I’m sure so many parents can relate to this. Your child is a prolific artist (whipping out 20 pieces a week), but you have no clue what to do with it all. This mom was tired of storing her children’s creations in a drawer, so we turned their artwork into a large collage that became the focal point of the room. We are so pleased with how this turned out and hope to create many more one-of-a-kind commisions in our future :)
