Setting up Cozy Reading Nooks for your Kids

The easiest way to get your child to read more? Create a cozy spot to nurture their inner bookworm! Just like with adults, a relaxed, comfortable environment increases kiddos’ desire to curl up with a good story too. Here are a few ways (ranging from easy to more involved) to create a child-friendly library in your home.

Level Easy: Tempory Seating and Shelves

The simplest step you can take to create a reading corner is to purchase moveable furniture and install shelves! Think comfy chair, bean bags, Nugget Couch or hanging swing. Add a few pillows, put up some front facing bookshelves (these are great for picture books) and you’re ready to go!

Level Medium: Reading Bench or Built-Ins

If you’re willing to invest a bit more, a window seat with a custom cushion and floating shelves is a great solution. Nothing’s dreamier than reclining with an Elephant & Piggie book as light streams through the window. If you have a large book collection or want to increase the toy storage in your room, a built-in library is worth every penny. It will age well with your family and quickly elevates the look of any space.

Level Advanced: Fort or Loft

Sometimes you stumble across a hidden storage unit and can easily convert it into a fort (see below), but if you’re not as lucky, you can build your own! This is definitely the most expensive and time consuming option, but c’mon, who didn’t dream of having one of these as a child?? If you have high ceilings and are willing to invest, odds are your little reader will spend countless hours stowed away with their book (our below client’s kids definitely do)!
