Little Brother’s Lair
Tell me you’re the fourth child without telling me you’re the fourth child… This 6-year-old is go with the flow and a man of simple asks.
Here’s what he requested:
Yellow!!
Spot for his drums
Basketball hoop
A place to display his LEGOS
Easy peasy! We’ll start by sharing the before photos and then move on to the good stuff!
Color Scheme
This little dude asked for yellow, but his older sibs and mom weren’t convinced he’d still like it in a few years. Gotta look out for baby bro, right? We wanted to stay true to his vision AND allow for easy swaps in the future. A yellow gingham duvet felt like a good way to make everyone happy. We added a few more pops of yellow with a FUN print (literally) and funky jungle cat lamp before balancing out the space with teal, sea foam, terracotta and navy. The carpet was a great starting place for color inspo. We kept the walls pretty neutral with a warm white and then added a pop with Red Earth on the trim, ceiling beam and bench.
Window Seat
The room already had a low storage area beneath the window, but it had definitely seen better days. We decided to spruce it up by painting it terracotta, adding some cute gold wiggle knobs and creating a custom cushion and pillows. We love how the bench’s squiggle pattern blended with the duvet’s gingham and rug’s geometrical print.
Basketball Zone
The boy who loves Lebron James and Steph Curry needed his own spot to shoot hoops. We love the clean lines on this wooden hoop and how the plush paneling adds a gymnasium feel to the room (and makes bumping into the wall safer). Confirmed: he’s been hitting a lot of threes in here!
Chalkboard Wall
Since he’s an incoming first grader, we wanted to put a play feature in the room that would inspire letter and number practice in a fun way. He’s already gotten busy adding doodles, the alphabet and math problems. We also included acrylic shelves so his LEGO creations could be displayed in all their glory.
Toy Storage
This guy still has a thriving toy collection, so we wanted to make sure he had plenty of storage. A locker makes anything feel cooler (keys to open each door? score!) and keeps Magna-Tiles, balls and board games out of sight when they’re not being used.
