Doubleheader Den

What happens when you create a room for 10-year-old twin boys? You gotta double everything- especially the fun!

Here’s what the boys requested:

  • Light blues & greens

  • Saying bye to bunk beds

  • Spot for the family dog, Sunny

  • Shelving for sports trophies

  • BEAN BAGS!

We loved getting to incorporate all of their desires into the room, leaving them with a space where they can grow together in the years to come. Ok, first the “befores,” and then we’ll move on to the “afters”!

Lime Wash & Dark Trim

If you read my 2025 Interior Design trends post you know I was eager to add lime wash to a room this year. When the boys asked for baby blue I wanted to incorporate it, but in a way that added more dimension. I fell for this Reservoir lime wash and there was no turning back. To ground the room, we added a dark blue (conveniently named Deep Reservoir) on the trim. Rich wood paneling was already on the ceiling when we arrived, so we kept it to lean into the masculine feel of the room.

Secret Fort

During the painting process we discovered a storage unit above the closet and HAD to utilize it somehow. We had already floated the idea of building a loft to our client, so were thrilled to discover the foundation for one already existed! To make it cozy inside we added a floor mattress and bean bags. We also added a cork board wall using leftover cork from the boys’ sister’s room!

Sporty Features

These boys are ATHLETIC and it needed to be showcased in their room! We added some odes to baseball with two prints above their beds (one painting is called “Southpaw” which we thought was pretty kismet since one twin actually is a leftie pitcher!), acrylic trophy stands in the corner and a baseball cap rack to the left of the beds.

Reading Corner

We wanted to encourage the boys’ love of reading, so gave them a comfy spot to chill with a good book. We, of course, had to accommodate their special request for bean bags, which happen to be the perfect mobile seating option. We can’t wait to watch their library grow over the years!
