Celestial Tween Haven

Not every family has a designated playroom in their home and that’s ok! Play can thrive all the same in a child’s bedroom or nursery. We loved getting to design a whimsical, warm, boho bedroom for a sweet 11-year-old girl. Play doesn’t go away as children age- it just evolves!

Here’s what she requested:

  • Galaxy vibes

  • Purple!!!!

  • Desk for art projects & schoolwork

  • Comfy chair

We wanted to accommodate her requests but also create a space that would feel cool into her teen years. Keep scrolling to see how it came together (and what it looked like before we renovated it)!

Galaxy Wallpaper

I have been eyeing this Luminaries wallpaper for quite some time (we went with Sunbeam) and loved that it satisfied her desire for a galaxy, but in a mature way. Putting it on the ceiling was a must, so she could stare up at the stars day and night.

Color scheme

We knew purple needed to make an appearence in the room, but wanted to incorporate it in an elevated way by adding multiple shades (lilac! lavender! violet! mauve!) and creating a little complimentary color fun with the yellows in the wallpaper. Finally we added pops of pink, sage and rust to bring more dimension to the room.

Built-In Desk

The room came with a built-in desk (woop!) but it needed a little love. We decided to paint it (and the trim) in high gloss cream to match the walls. We wanted to add a little drama, so thought some extra shine would be subtle, yet noticeable. We finished it off with this cute boucle chair to make homework sessions a little comfier.

Custom Bulletin Board

This kiddo loves keeping cherished memories close by (letters, artwork, tickets) so we wanted to give her a spot to really show them off. We applied sheets of corkboard to a little cove by the desk so she could decorate her walls with special mementos.

Reading Nook

A cozy chair was a must for the room. We placed it in the corner and then added an adorable star pendant light above, to make reading an option at all hours of the day (and keep with the celestial theme).
