Neons & Neutrals Upper West Side Playroom

While we are an LA based company, we love getting to work with families across the US! We just finished up a playroom project in Manhattan where we totally maximized a tiny space. Our client was excited about incorporating pop-y, bright accents in the room, while still keeping it mature enough to age well with her kiddos. Thus, neons & neutrals was born, the perfect blend of colorful statement pieces and calm grounding staples.

Couch, Play Table & Chairs

We kept the table and sofa pretty neutral, but loved getting to add some fun pops with these acrylic pink chairs. These chairs are super in right now with children and adults alike.

Built-ins & Window Seat

We painted the built-ins white and upholstered the bench cushion with cream boucle fabric so the room could transition into a guest room or study as our client’s girls got older. BUT since it’s neither of those quite yet, we added lots of fun accents to bring the shelves and window seat to life! We did so with…

1) Toys- It’s no surprise that these add playfulness to any space. We love letting beautiful toys double as art!

2) Books- We made sure the built-ins had a column solely devoted to books. When side by side they bring so much color into the room.

3) Iridescent floating shelves- We placed these on the inner walls of the bench area. Their reflectiveness and ability to change color depending on the level of light make them so dynamic!

4) Hot pink velvet pillows- A reading nook would be nothing without a cozy backrest. Pillows are an easy way to switch up the vibe of a room at a low cost.

Kallax storage

We love acrylic bins for their transparent properties- one because they make it easy for children to quickly identify what’s inside and two because they show off cute toys!!! For the most aesthetically pleasing look, pair see-through organizers with colorful or more uniform toys (Magna-tiles, wooden blocks, Duplos, etc!)

Gallery Wall

Now, this is where the neons, sparkles and pop art really came to life! Set against the pink squiggle wallpaper our client chose, each art piece came together to further the playful vibe of the space. From the pink neon sign to the disco donut and glittery gummy bears, it’s a wall full of eye candy!
