Artist Inspiration: Yayoi Kusama

Our first Mini Met class was a blast! Each week we’ll break out the world map and find the birthplace of our artist. Yayoi Kusama was born in Matsumoto, Nagano, Japan in 1929, making her 97 years old! Each of our artists will also end up on a timeline that we can reflect on at the end of the session. We used her iconic polka dots and vibrant colors as inspiration for our own art this week. The twist? We ditched the paint brushes and only used Q-Tips!

The class was surprised initially when we said we’d only be using Q-Tips as our mark-making medium, BUT they quickly adapted and the outcome was so fun. Some children went for an abstract vibe and others worked to make images out of their dots. Check out some of their work below :)
