LA Landmarks
We introduced a new unconventional material this week in Play Outside the Box… RECYCLABLES! Reasons why we love using these in play:
They’re accessible! Everyone can rinse out a container or break down a box.
It’s a sustainable practice! If those items are just going to go in the trash or recycling, might as well see what your kids can make of them first.
It’s affordable! You don’t need to take a trip down the toy aisle at Target when you have these at home.
They’re open-ended! Kids have fewer filters than adults. We see one use for a water bottle or a mac & cheese box… they see hundreds! It seems a little funny to offer these things when we could buy curated craft kits and popular toys, but these kinds of projects require more creativity from children, and they always ALWAYS rise to the occasion.
We offered cardboard boxes, plastic containers, bottles and caps and watched as your kids recreated iconic Los Angeles landmarks… oh and tape, looooots of tape ;) Our inspiration included the The Hollywood Sign, Santa Monica Pier, Disneyland, and Sofi. We also let them experiment and create other buildings and structures. We ended up with a few jetpacks, one Disneyland, and lots of flags :)
