How to Build a Playroom Magnet Wall (it’s easier than you think!)

A magnet wall is a surprisingly simple element to add to any playroom that will promote so many types of play. Keep reading to learn how to introduce this fun feature into your home!

1. Measure your door or wall to know the dimensions of the space you want to cover.

2. Head to your local fabrications shop and ask them for a sheet of galvanized steel with folded edges in your dimensions. They can bend the steel for you which will eliminate any sharp corners!

3. If adding your sheet to a door, have a handyman or GC (or you!) fill in any recesses so the metal will lie flush.

4. Adhere the metal to the wall or door with caulk or your preferred construction adhesive. Heads up- this will stick very well and be a semi-permanent feature in the room.

5. Get alllllll the magnets out! These letter magnets are great for developing pre-literacy skills. They promote letter recognition and allow children to interact with and manipulate letters before having to know how to write them. Magna-Tiles and magnetic ramps also pair so well with this door and can be used for pattern making, sorting and STEM play. Certain ramps require a specific level of magnetism on the wall, so make sure to contact the company and ask what’s best before purchasing your metal!

6. Get to playing!

Please let us know if you try this yourself or have any further questions!
