Self Portraits
We wrapped up our mini unit on clay by creating SELF PORTRAITS together! Every time we do this project with children, the outcome is so sweet and we see so much variation in what they create. We couldn’t wait to try it out with this class :) We began by brainstorming features we’d want to include on our faces. Here’s what we came up with!
Eyes
Nose
Mouth
Ears
Eyebrows
Tongue
Teeth
Hair
After our brainstorm we got to work sculpting with the assistance of mirrors. Children studied their features and used the feedback to guide their work. We’ve been practicing with clay tools, so the kiddos were familiar with what each one could be used for. Some children etched in their eyes, nose, and mouth while others sculpted them and added them onto their face. We’re excited about the outcomes :) We’ll let these dry along with other projects and paint them in the coming weeks!
