Picasso Faces
Today we spent almost all of our time together working on self portraits, but not the kind you might be envisioning :) We made Picasso-inspired polymer clay faces! We began by talking about facial features and the components we might want to include in our project. We made a list with graphics so the children could reference it while they worked.
100 Languages of Children
The 100 Languages of Children is a Reggio Emilia concept that suggests children can express themselvse in many different mediums. We tend to value written and spoken word in the West, but song, dance, and fine arts all have the potential to communicate a nuanced idea. Polymer clay is always a fun material to engage with because of its many hues and the delayed gratification of waiting for it to bake.
We saw children work through the challenges of encountering a less familiar material and the (unbaked) results were stunning! We can’t wait to send home their creations next week after our final class together!
Overheard @ Uniquely Me
“I’m gonna use black, for my pupils.”
“These are my nuzzle hairs, here’s the mom and here’s the baby, they’re snuggling.”
“I’m going to make a robot because I like pretending to be a robot.”
“Wow, that’s already looking beautiful, Coco!”
